No 2 ~ The Knife

No 2 ~ The Knife

A project from www.bazmarc.com, Made by Hand is a new short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft.

In the second film of our series, we’re introduced to Joel Bukiewicz, the founder of Cut Brooklyn. Joel’s journey is unique—he started as a writer but found his true calling in the craft of knife making. He speaks openly about how working with his hands changed his perspective, emphasizing that real craftsmanship is about more than just the end product—it’s about the people behind it.

Joel talks about the process of learning a new skill from scratch, the patience and persistence required, and how making something by hand can become a form of art. He explains that for him, the most rewarding part is the connection he feels with the people who use his knives and appreciate the effort that goes into each piece.

He believes that handmade work is special because it puts people first, not profits. In today’s world, where so much is mass-produced, Joel’s approach at Cut Brooklyn stands out. He creates fewer items, but each one is made thoughtfully and with care, showing that true value comes from intention and dedication, not just the bottom line…
